CFSA Broadens Channels of International Cooperation, Increases Modes of Communication and Innovation, Enhances Capacity Building

With the invitation from World Bank’s Global Food Safety Partnership Project (GFSP), Dr. Dawei Chen and Dr. Dan Wang from CSFA attended the training on new methods of drug residue detection at University of Maryland’s Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (JIFSAN). This training was an important part of GFSP’s laboratory ability building project in Asia Pacific region, which aims to foster professional experts and build foundation for fostering future professionals. In China, GFSP’s laboratory ability building project is conducted by CFSA chief counsellor Dr. Junshi Chen, aiming to improve the overall level of Chinese food safety by building up the laboratory ability. Recently, sponsored by GFSP, co-sponsored by CFSA, the first part of laboratory capacity building workshop has been completed in Shanghai. Dr. Dawei Chen and Dr. Dan Wang instructed at the training.

In recent years, CFSA has served to the government by managing food safety risks, served to the public by promoting educational information and served to the food industry by proposing innovative modes of development. CFSA aspires to become a professional food safety department with scientific credentials and international influence by constantly promoting international cooperation and improving the professional capacities of personnels by sending experts abroad to receive professional training. So far more than 40 CFSA staffs have either been trained at or visited WHO, FAOSTAT, FDA, Harvard University, University of Maryland, University of Oklahoma, BMEL, BfR, ANSES, University College Dublin, Meiji University, Hong Kong Baptist University. Such academic communication has greatly enhanced CFSA’s overall professional capacity.

CFSA will continue to expand channels of international cooperation about food safety, promote capacity building and create a globally acclaimed food safety database.
