A conference on the assessment of sodium intake in processed food was held in Beijing

To promote the sodium intake assessment project in processed foods and provide scientific evidence and recommendations for salt and sodium reduction to the food industry, conference on the assessment of sodium intake in processed food was held in Beijing on June 30. A total of 30 experts from the National Health Commission, The China Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology, Peking University, Sichuan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology attended the meeting. The meeting chaired by Dr. Jianwen Li, deputy director of the department of applied nutrition II.


Dr. Ya Yuan from Sichuan University introduced the research progress of sodium's dual health effects and the status of labeling management, and Dr. Jianwen Li introduced the evaluation work plan and preliminary research results. The participating experts put forward valuable opinions and suggestions on the program design and the evaluation results.


This conference has pointed out the direction for the follow-up work. It had important practical significance for the further implementation of National Nutrition Programme and Healthy China initiative.
